Midview and Avon Earn Weekly SWC Track and Field Honors

Following track meets on April 12th – April 18th track and field athletes of the week for the Southwestern Conference were announced this afternoon. Below are this week’s honorees:

Female Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Maddie Wendling (Sr)
Midview
Wendling led the Middies to their first Lorain County Invitational Championship in 40 years.  The senior placed second in the 100m, running the second fastest time in Midview history.  Wendling was part of the winning 4×100 team, ran a leg in the Midview record setting and winning 4×200 team, and part of the championship clinching second place finishing girls 4×400 team.

Male Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Jett Wieber (Sr)
Avon
Wieber set two meet records (800m – 1:57.74, and 1600m – 4:24.13) and anchored the winning 4×400 relay (3:35.21) helping Avon win the Lorain County Invitational on April 16th.

Other Notable Performances

Jared Kelley (Jr), North Olmsted
The Eagles’ junior sprinter has been impressive in the 100m dash.  On Wednesday he took first against Olmsted Falls with a time of 11.11 (hand time). Kelley broke the meet record at the Bay Rocket Invitational with an 11.29 in the finals after posting an 11.23 in the pre-lims.

Adonis Shelby (Jr), Westlake
Shelby set a new personal best in the long jump with 21-03.  He took first place in the event on Wednesday in the Demons’ dual with Amherst Steele, and claimed second place at Bay Rocket Invitational.  He was also a member of the winning 4×200 relay team.
