2021 Boys Tennis All-Southwestern Conference Honors

The Southwestern Conference announced the 2021 boys tennis individual award winners and All-Southwestern Conference teams, as selected by the SWC tournament results and conference coaches.  Avon’s Logan DeHaven was named Most Valuable Player of the Year.  Avon’s Eric Korey was named this year’s Coach of the Year.

Avon Earns SWC Tennis Athlete of the Week Award

Following matches on May 10th – May 16th, the boys tennis athlete of the week for the Southwestern Conference was announced this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

DeHaven earned the No. 2 seed after qualifying for the OHSAA District Tournament.  The sophomore is currently 28-2 on the season in 1st singles.

Other Notable Performances

Jacob Tagawa-Brain (Fr), North Ridgeville
Playing in the second doubles spot of the sectional tournament, Tagawa-Brain displayed fantastic play with his partner Luke Smithhisler (Sr).

North Olmsted Earns SWC Tennis Athlete of the Week Award

Following matches on April 26th – May 2nd, the boys tennis athlete of the week for the Southwestern Conference was announced this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

Following matches on April 19th – April 25th, the boys tennis athlete of the week for the Southwestern Conference was announced this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

The first doubles team is currently 4-1 in SWC competition and 7-1 overall on the season.  The duo picked up wins against Bay, St Edward and Westlake last week.

Following matches on April 12th – April 18th, the boys tennis athlete of the week for the Southwestern Conference was announced this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

As Avon’s 2nd singles player, LeMaster has impressed as a freshman.  Down 1-5, in the first set against Westlake early in the week, LeMaster battled all the way back to win the set in a tie-breaker.  The freshman also defeated his opponent from Hawken and won the Lorain County Tournament last week.

Kennedy went 5-1 on the week, helping the Shoremen to a second place finish at the LCAAA tournament.

Amherst Steele Earns SWC Tennis Athlete of the Week Award

Following matches on April 5th – April 11th, the boys tennis athlete of the week for the Southwestern Conference was announced this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

Opel is currently 4-0 on the spring, winning each match in straight sets and only losing five total games for the Comets.

Avon’s first doubles team of Janos and Wiersch were crowned champions at the Highland Invitational.  The duo are currently 9-0 on the season.

Following matches on March 29th – April 4th, the boys tennis athlete of the week for the Southwestern Conference was announced this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

DeHaven went undefeated on the week as the sophomore earned decisive wins over St. Edward, Norwalk and Wadsworth to help the Eagles.

Avon and Westlake Win 2019 SWC Boys Tennis Titles

SWC

Avon won the 2019 Southwestern Conference Boys Tennis Tournament on Monday with a team score of 39.  Avon claimed one individual title in second doubles with their team of Jeremy Wiersch and Nick Janos.

By virtue of winning the regular season and going undefeated in conference duals, Westlake shares the title with Avon.

Westlake finished the tournament in second place with 38 points, followed by third-place Avon Lake with 36 points. Amherst finished in fourth place with 28 points and Olmsted Falls rounded out the top five with 23 team points.
