2022 Boys Tennis All-Southwestern Conference Honors

The Southwestern Conference announced the 2022 boys tennis individual award winners and All-Southwestern Conference teams, as selected by the SWC tournament results and conference coaches.  Avon’s Logan DeHaven was named Most Valuable Player of the Year.  Avon’s Eric Korey and Laura Graham of Olmsted Falls were named this year’s Coaches of the Year.

Avon Earns SWC Tennis Athlete of the Week Award

Following matches on May 9th – May 15th, the boys tennis athlete of the week for the Southwestern Conference was announced this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

The division one Northeast Sectional Champion, DeHaven only dropped two total games in the entire sectional tournament last week.  The junior is now the number one seed moving into Districts.

Other Notable Performances

Xavier Wahn (So), Elyria
The Elyria sophomore went 4-0 in regular season play for the Pioneers.  Wahn beat Lakewood, Elyria Catholic and Lake Ridge Academy in third singles and earned a victory against Olmsted Falls in first doubles.

Olmsted Falls Earns SWC Tennis Athlete of the Week Award

Following matches on May 2nd – May 8th, the boys tennis athlete of the week for the Southwestern Conference was announced this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

Olmsted Falls
Arumugam finished in second place in the second singles division of the SWC tournament.  The junior was 6-1 on the season and is a fantastic student in the classroom, currently balancing four AP classes.

Avon Wins Third Consecutive Boys Tennis Tournament

Avon won the 2022 Southwestern Conference Boys Tennis Tournament on Monday with a team score of 40.  It is their third consecutive tournament title in a row.  Avon claimed all three individual titles and both doubles titles in their victory.

Avon Lake finished the tournament in second place with 29 points, followed by third-place Olmsted Falls with 28 points. North Ridgeville finished in fourth place with 24 points and Amherst Steele rounded out the top five with 23 team points.

Following matches on April 25th – May 1st, the boys tennis athlete of the week for the Southwestern Conference was announced this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

LeMaster is 19-1 on the season and undefeated in both the Southwestern Conference and Lorain County.  The sophomore has helped the Eagles to a ranking of sixth in the state of Ohio this Spring!

Following matches on April 18th – April 24th, the boys tennis athlete of the week for the Southwestern Conference was announced this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

Avon
The Avon freshman went 5-0 and is undefeated in SWC play in third singles.  He was crowned the champion in the LCAAA, only losing one game on his way to the first place finish.

Amherst Steele Earns SWC Tennis Athlete of the Week Award

Following matches on April 4th – April 10th, the boys tennis athlete of the week for the Southwestern Conference was announced this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

Amherst Steele
Opel is off to a 4-0 start as the Comet’s first singles player.  He defeated St. Edward’s first singles player 6-1, 6-1 last week.  The senior is the team leader in wins and straight sets and is committed to playing tennis at Ashland next year.

Other Notable Performances

Jeremy Wiersch & Tyler Heinrich (Sr), Avon
The duo went 2-0 on the week and played their best match of the season Thursday when they defeated Westlake 7-5, 6-2 and helped the Eagles clinch a 3-2 victory.

Brady Chapman (Jr), Olmsted Falls
Chapman had a 6-3, 6-1 victory over North Ridgeville’s first singles player in league play last week and won 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 against Hudson in the OTCA Team Tournament.  The junior is 4-0 on the season.

Logan DeHaven has started the year 6-0, defeating three State Qualifiers and winning the St Edward Invitational.

Other Notable Performances

Noah Jones (Jr), North Ridgeville
Jones has seen tough competition in the first singles pairings to begin the year, none more than his battle last week at North Olmsted.  The match lasted three hours and 20 minutes as the junior battled through exhaustion and muscle cramps.
