2023 All-Southwestern Conference Boys Tennis Honors

Avon High School senior Logan DeHaven was named the 2023 Southwestern Conference Most Valuable Boys Tennis Player following the conclusion of the SWC Boys Tennis season.

Avon High School Head Coach Eric Korey was selected 2023 SWC Coach of the Year.

The SWC Tournament champions earned All-SWC first team honors, while the runner-up finishers received All-SWC second team recognition. Each school also gets two honorable mention.

Avon captures fourth straight SWC Boys Tennis Tournament

Avon High School won the 2023 Southwestern Conference Boys Tennis Tournament on Thursday (May 4) with a team score of 39.  It is their fourth consecutive tournament title. Avon claimed all three individual titles and as well as the second doubles title en route to their victory.

Avon Lake finished the tournament in second place with 31 points, followed by third-place Olmsted Falls with 25 points. North Ridgeville finished in fourth place with 22 points and Amherst Steele and Midview tied for fifth place with 20 team points.

Olmsted Falls’ Chapman Named SWC Boys Tennis Athlete of the Week

The Southwestern Conference released its Boys Tennis Athlete of the Week for April 24-30 this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

Senior

Brady won all five of his matches this week. He picked up first singles victories against Amherst, Berea-Midpark and Strongsville as well as 2 wins at the SWC Tournament. He will compete for the SWC Championship later this week.

Other Notable Performances

Luke LeMaster (Jr.), Avon
Helped lead his team to a big victory over Wooster in the State Team Cup tournament last week winning 6-0, 6-0. The third singles player will compete for the SWC Championship later this week.

Andrew Keller (Sr.) and Evan Bellamy (Sr.), Avon Lake
The second doubles tandem earned a win over North Ridgeville and then two wins at the SWC Tournament. They will compete for the SWC Championship later this week.

Logan earned four more wins last week to bring his record to 10-0 at first singles. He defeated two state qualifiers last week, one from Hawken 6-1, 6-2 and another from Walsh Jesuit 6-1, 6-1.

Avon Lake’s Grozav Named SWC Boys Tennis Athlete of the Week

The Southwestern Conference released its Boys Tennis Athlete of the Week for April 10-16 this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

Grozav entered the LCAAA Tournament as the third seed in first singles and captured the prestigious title.

Avon’s Sidoti Named SWC Boys Tennis Athlete of the Week

The Southwestern Conference released its first Boys Tennis Athlete of the Week(s) for March 17 – April 9 this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

The Southwestern Conference announced the 2022 boys tennis individual award winners and All-Southwestern Conference teams, as selected by the SWC tournament results and conference coaches.  Avon’s Logan DeHaven was named Most Valuable Player of the Year.  Avon’s Eric Korey and Laura Graham of Olmsted Falls were named this year’s Coaches of the Year.

Avon Earns SWC Tennis Athlete of the Week Award

Following matches on May 9th – May 15th, the boys tennis athlete of the week for the Southwestern Conference was announced this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

The division one Northeast Sectional Champion, DeHaven only dropped two total games in the entire sectional tournament last week.  The junior is now the number one seed moving into Districts.

The Elyria sophomore went 4-0 in regular season play for the Pioneers.  Wahn beat Lakewood, Elyria Catholic and Lake Ridge Academy in third singles and earned a victory against Olmsted Falls in first doubles.

Olmsted Falls Earns SWC Tennis Athlete of the Week Award

Following matches on May 2nd – May 8th, the boys tennis athlete of the week for the Southwestern Conference was announced this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

Arumugam finished in second place in the second singles division of the SWC tournament.  The junior was 6-1 on the season and is a fantastic student in the classroom, currently balancing four AP classes.

Avon Wins Third Consecutive Boys Tennis Tournament

Avon won the 2022 Southwestern Conference Boys Tennis Tournament on Monday with a team score of 40.  It is their third consecutive tournament title in a row.  Avon claimed all three individual titles and both doubles titles in their victory.

Avon Lake finished the tournament in second place with 29 points, followed by third-place Olmsted Falls with 28 points. North Ridgeville finished in fourth place with 24 points and Amherst Steele rounded out the top five with 23 team points.
