Week 2 – Vote for the Southwestern Conference Player of the Week!

For the 2018-19 athletic year, the Southwestern Conference will hold a weekly poll here at swcohio.net where students, parents and fans can vote for the SWC conference player of the week!  Each week, athletic directors from around the conference will nominate one male and one female student-athlete from their school based off their athletic performances and accomplishments.  Voting will open on Mondays and close on Wednesdays.  Join us every week to vote for the most deserving performances!

**Some votes will be disqualified if voting is found to be done illegally**

SWC Female Athlete Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst – Lexy Alston (Jr) Soccer – Alston scored the lone goal in the Comets victory over Midview in a pivotal SWC match.

Avon – Beth Robinson (Jr) Soccer – A solid defender for the Eagles, Robinson scored her first goal in their 2-0 victory over North Olmsted.

Avon Lake – Paighton Masterson (Sr) Golf – Masterson was low scorer in two victories on the week for the Shoregals.  She posted a 37 in a victory over Avon and a 35 against Westlake.

Berea-Midpark – Athena Sevastos (So) Soccer – Sevastos’ tireless effort defensively helped guide the Titans to a 2-0 week.  Tasked with marking the top scorer from North Ridgeville and Kent Roosevelt, she held both athletes scoreless and without an assist.

Lakewood – Abby Sacha (So) Cross Country – Sacha competed at the Mentor Cardinal Classic Cross Country Meet this week and finished the 5K race with a time of 21:49.63.

Midview – Rachel Spayd (Jr) Volleyball – Spayd helped Midview to a 2-2 record on the week.  She scored 21 points on 37 service attempts with 100% serve percentage.  She added 14 kills on 42 attacks with only seven errors.  Defensively she had four solo blocks and assisted on three to go along with nine digs.

North Olmsted – Alyssa Kell (Jr) Golf – Kell recorded scores of 51, 52, 47 and 47 on the week for the Eagles golf team.

North Ridgeville – Taylor Wohleber (Jr) Soccer – Wohleber scored for the Rangers in their match with Berea-Midpark on Wednesday 8/29.

Olmsted Falls – Kaye Dregalla (Sr) Volleyball – In wins against Lakewood and North Ridgeville, Dregalla totaled 19 kills, six aces, 14 service points, 14 digs and an average serve receive reception quality of 2.489.

Westlake – Leah Schmidt (Sr) Volleyball – Schmidt had a monster week, helping the Demons to a 2-0 record with wins over Avon Lake and North Olmsted.  She had 45 kills, 27 digs and 6 aces in the two victories.

SWC Male Athlete Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst – Jacob Fitzpatrick (Jr) Golf – Helped the Comets to two conference victories on the week.  Shot a 38 at Forest Hills vs BMHS and a -1, 35 at Mallard Creek against Olmsted Falls.

Avon – Nick Perusek (Jr) Football – Ran for 248 yards and two touchdowns in victory over Olmsted Falls.

Avon Lake – Konner Riggs (Jr) Football – The junior running back rushed for 263 yards and scored four touchdowns in the Shoremen’s win over North Olmsted.

Berea-Midpark – Brandon Garibotti (Sr) Soccer – Garibotti scored four goals in three matches to help the Titans to a 2-0-1 mark on the week.The senior captain scored a hat trick on Monday’s victory over Lakewood and the opening goal in a 2-1 victory over Strongsville on Saturday.

Lakewood – Patrick McCallum (Jr) Cross Country – Lakewood competed in the Mentor Cardinal Classic Cross Country Invitational on Satuday, where McCallum finished 30th with his time of 17:48.11

Midview – Andrew Gooch (Sr) Football – The senior quarterback was 21 of 35 passing for 335 yards and two touchdowns.  He also ran eight times for 56 yards in the Middies game with North Ridgeville.

North Olmsted – Matt Olah (Sr) Golf – Olah has been helping the Eagles golf team by routinely shooting in the 30s this season.

North Ridgeville – Matt Steinmetz (Sr) Football – The senior quarterback was 10 of 18 for 223 yards and and three touchdowns.  He also had one rushing touchdown in the victory over Midview.

Olmsted Falls – Joe Backus (Sr) XC – Backus finished first overall in the SWC preview meet with a time of 17:23.6 and finished fifth in the Bucyrus invitational this week with a time of 17:26.89

Westlake – Ryan Malloy (Jr) Golf – Ryan Malloy helped the Demons golf team to a 2-1 record over the week, with SWC victories over North Olmsted and Avon where he shot 39 and 42 respectively.
