Amherst Steele, Midview and Olmsted Falls Earn SWC Weekly Basketball Honors

Following games on December 6th – December 12th the boys and girls basketball players of the week for the Southwestern Conference were announced this afternoon. Below are this week’s honorees:

Female Basketball Player of the Week
Mary Meng (Jr)
Midview
Meng is averaging a double double to begin the 2021-22 season.  In a non-conference win over Lorain, the junior had 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Against Amherst Steele, Meng scored 24 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in the victory.

Other Notable Performances

Kendall Braaten (Jr), Berea-Midpark
The Berea-Midpark guard continues to average great numbers for the Titans.  Last week, Braaten averaged 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals while going 11-of-13 from the charity stripe.

Mia Kalich (Jr), Olmsted Falls
In a key win over North Ridgeville, Kalich scored 18 points and shot 50% from the field.  The junior grabbed nine rebounds, recorded four steals and dished out two assists.

Co-Male Basketball Player of the Week
Austin Bray (Sr)
Amherst Steele
In a non-conference win over Clearview, Bray dropped 29 points and recorded five rebounds, three assists and two steals.  Friday, the senior scored 17 points and had 11 rebounds and four assists in the Comets’ victory over Midview.

Charlie Ciolek (Sr)
Olmsted Falls
Olmsted Falls senior Charlie Ciolek finished with 30 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in the team’s win over North Ridgeville.  The next afternoon, Ciolek played limited minutes (15) at the Greynolds Classic in Barberton but still managed to score 13 points, grab five rebounds and dish out four assists in the win over Toledo Woodward.
