Following track meets on May 3rd – May 9th the track and field athletes of the week for the Southwestern Conference were announced this afternoon. Below are this week’s honorees:
Female Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Stephanie Nivellini (Fr)
Westlake
The Demon freshman won two events at the Rocky River Bell Invitational over the weekend. Nivellini won the 3200 meter run, beating senior Mikayla Jones from Aurora, with her time of 11:44.20. She also ran the third leg of the winning 4×800 relay team which set a Westlake school record, finishing in 9:41.55.
Other Notable Performances
Veronica Waugaman (Jr), North Ridgeville
Waugaman broker her own school record with a PR jump of 12-00 in the pole vault, placing first at the Vermillion Invitational and helping the Rangers finish second overall.
Male Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Austin Norris (Sr)
Westlake
Norris set a new high jump PR of 6-03 to take first place at the Rocky River Bell Invitational. The senior also won the 110 hurdles (14.91), the 300 hurdles (40.48) and finished second in the 200 meter run (23.18).
