Avon Secures 2023 SWC Girls Tennis Tournament Championship

Avon High School earned 4-of-5 contested titles to take home its fifth straight Southwestern Conference Girls Tennis Tournament Championship Tuesday (September 19). The 2023 event took place on the Eagle’s newly remodeled courts.

Avon went head-to-head against rival Avon Lake High School in all five league finals. The Eagles won 2-of-3 singles brackets. Senior Natalie Smitek defeated Avon Lake junior Amber Korey 6-2, 6-3 to win the First Singles crown for the second straight season. Senior Denver Johnson won her fourth-straight SWC championship by defeating Avon Lake junior Elizabeth Meiners 6-1, 6-3 in the finals of the Second Singles bracket. Avon Lake junior Autum Korey topped Avon freshmen Ashley DeHaven 6-0, 6-0 at Third Singles.

The Eagles also won both doubles brackets. Seniors Ishani Kishorepuria and Victoria Sidoti topped Avon Lake seniors Grace He and McKenzie Anspaugh 6-1, 6-3 in First Doubles, and Julianne Hindman and Maddie Huen defeated Avon Lake’s Avery Brown and Vanessa Brown 6-3, 6-0 in Second Doubles.
