The Southwestern Conference released its Boys Cross Country Athlete of the Week for August 1-19 this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

Matthew Walker

Matthew lost his shoe within the first 800 meters of the race, but pushed through to be the fifth man on the team that placed second out of 41 teams at the OHSAA Early Season Invite. Walker’s time of 17:27 was over a 45-second improvement from his 2022 season personal record and over a two-minute improvement from his 2022 race at this meet.

Sam Arnold (Senior), Avon
Sam ran a 27-second personal record (17:21) at the OHSAA Early Season Invite. He led the Eagles to 16th place out of 41 teams.
