Avon wins 2023 SWC Boys Golf Preview; Steele’s Tran earns medalist honors

Avon High School used its depth to hold off Amherst for the team title. The Eagles had four top-10 finishers. Hunter McCourt posted a 74 and Tim Mai had a 75 while Cooper Lodge added a 77 and Zane Austin contributed an 82 to give the Eagles a total score of 308.

The Comets had the top two finishers in Tran and Ryan Yoder, who shot a 73. Alek Kissame also finished in the top 10 with an 82, while Jacob Sprinkle and Mitchell Diehl tied for 15th with an 84 to give Amherst a score of 311.

Avon Lake High School (323) edged Olmsted Falls High School (324) for third place. The Shoremen were paced by Cole Cartwright and Kyle Ritter with 79s, while the Bulldogs were led by Dylan Sowers with a 76 and Rowan Seymour with an 80.

Midview High School (349) took fifth place, while North Ridgeville High School (365), Berea-Midpark High School (372) and Elyria High School (426) rounded out sixth through eighth place at the Preview, which accounts for 20% of the overall SWC standings.

The SWC regular-season, which has each team playing each other head-to-head once, is also worth 20%, while the Midview Invitational on September 5 at Columbia Hills Country Club and the SWC Championship on September 21 at Grey Hawk Golf Club are both worth 30%.
