Week 9 – Vote for the Southwestern Conference Player of the Week!

For the 2018-19 athletic year, the Southwestern Conference will hold a weekly poll here at swcohio.net where students, parents and fans can vote for the SWC player of the week!  Each week, athletic directors from around the conference will nominate one male and one female student-athlete from their school based off their athletic performances and accomplishments.  Voting will open on Monday and close on Wednesdays.  Join us every week to vote for the most deserving performances!

**Some votes will be disqualified if voting is found to be done illegally**

SWC Female Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst – Audrey McConihe (Sr) Volleyball – The senior recorded 14 digs for the Comets in their OHSAA Tournament opening win over Lorain.  She also had a team high 17 digs in the Sectional Finals loss to Avon.

Avon – Jules Frombach (Sr) Cross Country – The senior finished third over the weekend at the OHSAA District Meet and qualified for her fourth Regional Meet.  Frombach was also named the Lorain County Runner of the Year for the second straight year.

Avon Lake – Maggie Jantz (So) Cross Country – Jantz led the Shoregals to a OHSAA District Championship with a time of 20:09.11, good for sixth overall on Saturday.

Berea-Midpark – Makayla Watkins (So) Soccer – Watkins set the tone in Berea-Midpark’s OHSAA Sectional Final game, scoring the opening goal 80 seconds into the match, helping the Titans defeat Cleveland Heights and advance to the District Semifinals.

North Olmsted – Kayla Simon (Fr) Cross Country – The freshman ran a personal best 21:40 at the OHSAA District Meet on Saturday, good for 30th overall.

Olmsted Falls – Kylie Fitzgerald (Jr) Soccer – In the OHSAA Sectional Final, Fitzgerald assisted on two of the team’s three goals in the 3-0 victory over Avon Lake.

Westlake – Emma Peeler (Sr) Tennis – The four time state qualifier and four time conference MVP finished fourth overall in the OHSAA State Tournament over the weekend.

SWC Male Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst – Khennedy Scagliozzo (Sr) Football – Scagliozzo set the school record for most rushing yards and touchdowns in a career on Friday night after rushing for 187 yards and scoring three touchdowns in the Comets game against Avon.

Avon – Michael Bergen (Sr) Football – The senior offensive lineman and Toledo commit had ten pancake blocks and helped the Eagles rush for nearly 500 yards against Amherst.

Avon Lake – Cameron Salco (Sr) Soccer – Salco scored twice to help the Shoremen defeat Westlake 3-0 and advance to the OHSAA District Semifinal.

Berea-Midpark – Ethan Bradt (Sr) Cross Country – Bradt improved his SWC Championship Meet time by 30 seconds on the LCCC Course at the OHSAA District Meet on Saturday.  He advances to the Regional Meet with his sixth place finish and time of 17:02.01

Midview – Andrew Gooch (Sr) Football – The senior quarterback finished 14 of 23 for 308 yards and five passing touchdowns on offense while having four tackles and an interception on defense in the Middies victory over Lakewood on Friday night.

North Olmsted – Liam Fay (Sr) Football – Fay threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing 14 times for 42 yards in the Eagles victory over Berea-Midpark.

Olmsted Falls – Braden Galaska (Sr) Football – The senior captain had two receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown on offense, while recording eight tackles and an interception on defense to help Olmsted Falls defeat Avon Lake.

Westlake – Colin Walsh (Jr) Cross Country – Walsh qualified for the OHSAA Regional Meet on Saturday by finishing twelfth overall at the District Meet with his time of 17:32.17.
