Amherst Steele wins 2026 SWC Girls Bowling Tournament and overall championship

Amherst Steele High School captured the 2026 Southwestern Conference Bowling Tournament title and overall SWC Championship Sunday (February 8) at Spevock’s Nautical Lanes. The Comets, who compiled 3,169 pins, rallied from a 55-pin deficit after the three traditional games to win the event by 30 pins. [2026 SWC Girls Bowling Tournament Results (PDF)]

Amherst finished the regular season in second place with a 6-1 record. However, the Comets jumped ahead of regular season champion North Ridgeville High School at the tournament to secure their fifth SWC Tournament in the last six seasons.

Olmsted Falls High School’s Hailey Klamut (526 series) earned individual medalist honors at the season-ending tournament. Bulldog teammate Leah Pehotsky placed runner-up with a 518 series, while Amherst’s Peyton Zakrajsek and Berea-Midpark High School’s Brianna Neal (490 series) tied for third place.

Midview, who led until the fifth baker game, collected 3,139 pins to place runner-up for the third straight season. Berea-Midpark High School (3,082) was third and North Ridgeville (2,900) placed fourth, while Olmsted Falls (2,894), Elyria High School (2,448), Avon High School (2,389) and Avon Lake High School (1,782) rounded out the Tournament standings. The SWC Tournament featured three regular games and six Baker games.

Overall SWC standings are determined by the records against each other during the North Shore Bowling Conference schedule (60%) as well as placement at the SWC Tournament (40%). There are still two make-up matches to play next week before final standings are solidified.
