Southwestern Conference Sportsmanship and Scholar-Athletes of December

Each month, the Southwestern Conference will recognize student-athletes who are excelling in the classroom as well as those who have demonstrated the highest levels of integrity and sportsmanship. For December the SWC recognizes the following student-athletes:

Scholar Athletes of the Month

Amelia Volney
Senior
Midview High School
Girls Volleyball / Girls Basketball

Amelia Volney entered her seventh semester with a 4.3 cumulative grade point average. The NHS member is currently enrolled in College Composition and Living Landscape Design (LCCC) among other classes. Volney is active in Key Club, Link Crew, Best Buddies and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Outside of sports, Volney works at Biggby Coffee and Root 58 Greenhouse while also volunteering at Angel Haven Horse Center and Second Harvest.

 

Isaiah Hill
Senior
Elyria High School
Boys Basketball

Isaiah Hill carries a 4.667 cumulative grade point average into his seventh semester. The National Honor Society member is currently enrolled in AP African American Studies, AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, AP English 12 AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism.

Outside of sports, Hill is an active member of Academic Challenge and the Bridging the Gap program.

Paige Bielozer is a team leader and role model, who is always encouraging others to do their best. She leads by example and has respect, integrity and a positive attitude on and off the sidelines.

In the classroom she takes AP course while also involved in the Ranger Service Learning class.

Ian Cavanaugh
Senior
Berea-Midpark High School
Football

Ian Cavanaugh truly embodies what it means to be a great sport. He is a consistently positive presence on the field, always lifting up his teammates and celebrating their efforts. Regardless of the scoreboard, Ian demonstrates grace and humility through his actions and words of encouragement. His attitude sets the tone for others, and he has a genuine ability to uplift everyone around him.

Ian is deeply committed to serving others through a variety of meaningful after-school activities. He has traveled to Mexico on mission trips to help rebuild homes for families in need, demonstrating compassion, resilience, and a strong work ethic. At his church, he volunteers at craft shows to help raise funds for future mission work, consistently showing initiative and a willingness to support larger community efforts. In addition, Ian teaches Sunday school, where he serves as a positive role model for younger students and shares his time and talents to help them grow.

Ian is involved in a wide range of after-school activities. He plays on the football team and participates in drama club and show choir. He is active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes and even founded the Bagley Jesus Club to support his peers. Ian also serves as a Sunday School Teacher for Grace Church.
