Avon Lake wins 2025 SWC Boys Cross Country Championship

ELYRIA, Ohio – Avon Lake High School posted six individuals in the top 20 to win the 2025 Southwestern Conference Boys Cross Country Championship Saturday (October 11) on the campus of Lorain County Community College. [Complete Results]

Junior Niko Koutouras (16:42.08) placed second, junior Alex Schulz (17:20.60) took eighth, junior Liam Maitland (17:37.55) finished 12th, sophomore Luke Gunter (17:48.40) was 16th, senior Nathan Grieger (18:06.56) finished 19th and senior Ian Fababe (18:07.60) took 20th to help the Shoremen compile a league-best 57 points. It was Avon Lake’s 10th title since the initial race in 1967 and first since 2021.

Avon High School senior Jose Alvelo won the 5,000 meter championship with a time of 16:38.78.

Berea-Midpark High School had three individuals place in the top 10 to secure second place with 79 points. Senior Johnny Habre (16:56.52) took third, senior Lucas Roberts (17:02.71) was fourth and freshman Gavin Vozar (17:29.63) placed tenth.
