Berea-Midpark’s Michels Named SWC Boys Swimming Athlete of the Week

The Southwestern Conference released its Boys Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for December 2-8 this evening. Below is this week’s honoree:

Sean Michels
Berea-Midpark
Sophomore

Sean won the 50 Freestyle and 200 Freestyle Relay while finishing runner-up in the Medley Relay and 100 Breaststroke in a win over Amherst. He then took fourth in the 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle Relay and fifth in the 200 Freestyle Relay at the Oberlin Invitational.

Other Notable Performances:

Luke Lundgard (Fr.), Avon
Finished as the top freshman in the 100 Freestyle (third place) and 100 Backstroke (sixth place) at the 37-team Chardon Hilltopper Invitational. Both times are the fastest a freshman has gone at Avon in over a decade. He also helped the Eagles finish second in the Medley Relay and third in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Both times were also faster than any Eagles team in more than 10 years and helped secure Avon’s highest finish ever at the meet.

Swam lifetime bests while placing second in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke and third in the 200 Freestyle Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay at the Oberlin Invitational.
