Avon Wins Fourth Straight SWC Girls Swimming & Diving Championship

Avon High School won its fourth consecutive Southwestern Conference Girls Swimming & Diving Championship Saturday (January 27) on the campus of Cleveland State University. The Eagles dominated the field again by winning 9 of the 12 events and compiling 429 points in 2024.

Avon Lake High School finished runner-up with 249 points, while Amherst Steele High School placed third with 219 points and Berea-Midpark High School took fourth with 177 points.

Avon’s Alex Downing became the first student-athlete in history to win 16 career gold medals at the SWC Championship. She won the 200 Freestyle and the 100 Butterfly (meet record). Downing also anchored the 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay to victories for the Eagles.
