Avon wins 2022 SWC Boys Golf Preview; Midview’s Stone earns medalist honors

Midview senior Bryan Stone woke up with the goal of top-5 finish at the 2022 Southwestern Conference (SWC) Boys Golf Preview, which took place Monday (August 15) at Pine Hill Golf Course. After battling the course and his 47 other competitors for 18-holes, the three-time All-SWC performer surprised even himself as he took home medalist honors with a three-over-par 75. Three-time defending SWC Champion Avon High School had three top-10 finishers to win the tournament. Brenton Dill and Hunter McCourt both posted a 77, while Justice Hargett added a 78 and Zane Austin contributed an 81 to give the Eagles a total score of 313.

Avon Lake High School and Olmsted Falls High School tied for second with a 317. The Shoremen were paced by Cole Cartwright, who fired a 76, and Ryan Harbour with a 79. Dylan Sowers led the Bulldogs with a 76, while Ben Scheef added a 77.

Amherst (328), which had a pair of top-1o placers in Ryan Yoder (77) and Devin Pritt (79), edged Midview (330) for fourth place, while North Ridgeville (341), Berea-Midpark (388) and Elyria (417) rounded out sixth through eighth place at the Preview, which accounts for 20% of the overall SWC standings.

The SWC regular-season, which has each team playing each other head-to-head once, is also worth 20%, while the Midview Invitational on September 6 at Columbia Hills Country Club and the SWC Championship on September 22 at Grey Hawk Golf Club are both worth 30%.
