Berea-Midpark, Midview and Olmsted Falls Earn SWC Weekly Basketball Honors

Following games on February 6th – February 13th the boys and girls basketball players of the week for the Southwestern Conference were announced this afternoon. Below are this week’s honorees:

Female Basketball Player of the Week
Kendall Braaten (Jr)
Berea-Midpark
In two games last week, the Titans guard averaged 19 points, six rebounds, 4.5 steals and four assists in two games against Norton and Avon.

Other Notable Performances

Brooke Laub (Jr) Avon
Avon’s point guard averaged 15 points, 3.5 rebounds and two assists last week.  In a conference game with Berea-Midpark, the junior had 25 points and shot 70% from the field.

Daylan Baker (Sr), North Ridgeville
Baker averaged 11 points per game last week to go along with her five assists, five rebounds and three steals per game.  The senior scored 18 points and had six rebounds and three assists against Midview.

Mia Kalich (Jr), Olmsted Falls
In wins over Amherst Steele and Gilmour Academy, Kalich averaged 13.5 points per game to go along with five assists and five steals.

Co-Male Basketball Player of the Week
Aden Gregory (Sr)
Midview
Gregory scored 31 points and grabbed 7 rebounds against North Ridgeville on Tuesday.  The senior followed that game with a double double against Avon Friday night.  Gregory finished with 33 points and 15 rebounds.

Michael Candow (Jr)
Olmsted Falls
In a 74-61 SWC title clinching win Tuesday against Amherst Steele, Candow scored 39 points, 18 in the second quarter.  The junior guard was 7-of-10 fro both three point range and the foul line and was 6-of-9 from two-point shots.

Other Notable Performances

George Gotsis (Sr), Amherst Steele
Senior forward dropped 35 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the Comets’ win over Elyria.

Max Emerine (Jr), Avon
Emerine averaged 20 points and 5 rebounds on the week for the Eagles, including a 23 point game against Lorain where the junior guard hit six 3-pointers.

Omar Palos (Sr), Elyria
Elyria’s Omar Palos averaged 19 points in three games last week, highlighted by his 32 point game against Warrensville Heights where he made eight 3-pointers.

Griffin Turay (So), North Ridgeville
Turay averaged a double-double last week for the Rangers, with 16 points and 10 rebounds per game against Berea-Midpark and Midview.
