Amherst Steele High School rolled to a first place finish at the 2022 Southwestern Conference Bowling Tournament Sunday (February 13) at Spevock’s Nautical Lanes. The Comets, who compiled 4,009 pins, also secured the 2022 overall SWC Championship for a second straight season. [2022 SWC Girls Bowling Tournament Results (PDF)]
Makayla Velasquez (664 series) earned individual medalist honors by holding off her Comet teammate Allison Taylor (662 series). Hannah Aschenbach, another Amherst bowler, finished third with a 632 series. Taylor had the best game of the day by opening the tournament with a 258.
Overall standings were determined by the records against each other during the North Shore Bowling Conference schedule (60%) as well as placement at the SWC Tournament (40%). Amherst Steele went 7-0 against the other SWC schools during the regular season. The SWC Tournament featured three regular games and six baker games. There are a few more matches to play before the overall SWC standings can be finalized.
North Ridgeville High School placed runner-up with 3,168 pins. Avon Lake High School (2,953) and Berea-Midpark High School (2,816) finished third and fourth, while Avon High School (2,746), Olmsted Falls High School (2,545), Midview High School (2,481) and Elyria High School (1,949) rounded out the Tournament standings.
