Avon and Elyria Earn SWC Weekly Basketball Honors

Following games on January 17th – January 23rd the boys and girls basketball players of the week for the Southwestern Conference were announced this afternoon. Below are this week’s honorees:

Female Basketball Player of the Week
Abby Liber (Sr)
Avon

Avon’s Abby Liber scored her 1,000 point in the team’s victory over Brunswick.  The senior guard scored 21 points, had six rebounds, 3 assists and two steals in the game.  Earlier in the week, Liber had a double double with 27 points and 13 rebounds to go with 2 assists and four steals in Avon’s win over Avon Lake.

Other Notable Performances

Kendall Braaten (Jr), Berea-Midpark
Braaten averaged 25 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and four steals on the week for the Titans.  She tied the school record Saturday with seven three-pointers in their victory over Elyria.

Olivia DiFranco (So), Berea-Midpark
DiFranco has helped the Middies to a tremendous season in her sophomore campaign.  The guard scored 22 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals in a win at North Ridgeville.  She followed that up with 17 points against Olmsted Falls.

Male Basketball Player of the Week
Ryan Walsh (Jr)
Elyria
Averaging 21.6 points in three games, Elyria’s point guard helped the Pioneers go 2-1 on the week.  Walsh scored 31 in the team’s win over Oberlin and 20 points and five rebounds in a victory against Berea-Midpark.  The senior finished the week with 14 points and six rebounds against Elyria Catholic.

Other Notable Performances

Max Emerine (Jr), Avon
Emerine had a great week beyond the arc, hitting 10 three pointers in two games for Avon.  Against Highland, the junior finished with 17 points (5 3’s) four rebounds and three assists.  Against Avon Lake, Emerine had 21 points (5 3’s) and two assists.

Michael Candow (Jr), Olmsted Falls
Candow scored 19 points (5 3’s) and had three assists and three steals in a win over Midview.  The junior followed that up with an 11 point and four steal performance in the Bulldogs’ victory over Bay.
