Following soccer games on August 16th – August 21st the boys and girls soccer players of the week for the Southwestern Conference were announced this afternoon. Below is this week’s honorees:
Female Soccer Player of the Week
Rachel Sheehan (Jr)
Avon Lake
In an 8-0 win over Valley Forge to start the season, Sheehan scored the game opening goal in a school record 22 seconds. The junior midfielder would score her second goal of the game five minutes later.
Other Notable Performances
Leia Rienerth (Sr), Berea-Midpark
Rienerth scored two goals for the Titans in their season opening 4-0 shutout of North Olmsted on the road.
Male Soccer Player of the Week
Nathanial Vakos (Sr)
Avon
Guiding the Eagles to a 2-0 start to begin their 2021 campaign, Vakos has two goals and two assists early this season in wins over Brunswick and Lakewood. The senior forward was involved in all goals scored by Avon so far this year.
Other Notable Performances
Kyle Dumais (Sr), Amherst Steele
The senior goalkeeper made seven saves and was solid off his line, clearing a few other dangerous chances to earn his first shutout of the season against Rocky River.
Gavin Heighberger (Jr), Elyria
Heighberger helped Elyria get out to a 1-0 start this season by scoring one goal and assisting on two others in the Pioneers’ victory over Oberlin.
