Following track meets on April 5th – April 11th track and field athletes of the week for the Southwestern Conference were announced this afternoon. Below are this week’s honorees:
Female Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Brooke Lumpkin (Sr)
Avon Lake
Lumpkin had a state best throw of 46-08.5 in the shot put over the weekend at the Medina Relays. The toss is one of the best in the states this spring for girls track athletes.
Other Notable Performances
Faith Kingsley (Jr), Berea-Midpark
At the Ranger Relays in Lakewood, Kingsley was first in the 100m hurdles (16.03), first in the long jump (17-08.50), helped set a school record in the 4x100m relay (51.13) and finished second in the sprint medley.
Maddie Wendling (Sr), Midview
The Middie speedster won the 100m sprint in her dual against Olmsted Falls and a the Midview Shipwreck Invite over the weekend. Wendling was a member of the winning 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m teams against the Bulldogs. At the Shipwreck, she helped set a meet and school record in the 4x100m, won the 4x200m and her 4x400m team finished runner-up
Male Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Austin Norris (Sr)
Westlake
In a mid-week dual with North Ridgeville, Norris won four events (110m hurdles, 300m hurdles, 400m, high jump). The senior was named the Shipwreck Invite MVP after winning the 300m hurdles and the high jump, and finishing second in the 200m dash and the 110m hurdles.
Other Notable Performances
Ryan Sanborn (Jr), North Olmsted
Sanborn set a new PR by winning the 300m hurdles at Sandusky Perkins High School over the weekend. The junior won the 110m hurdles and the 300m hurdles in a dual against Avon during the week.
