Following games on January 4th-10th, the boys basketball player of the week for the Southwestern Conference was announced this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:
Boys Basketball Player of the Week
Charlie Ciolek (Jr)
Olmsted Falls
Ciolek earns the award for a second straight week after yet another strong performance for the Bulldogs. On Tuesday, the junior guard scored 20 points, nine rebounds and 4 assists in a victory over Midview. Friday evening Ciolek recorded 17 points and six rebounds. In Saturday’s double overtime victory over Westlake, Ciolek had a line of 38 points (13 of 20 shooting), 13 rebounds and two assists.
Other Notable Performances
Ty Weatherspoon (Sr), Amherst Steele
Another solid week for the Comet senior, Weatherspoon had a double double of 19 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Berea-Midpark. He followed that performance up with 17 points six rebounds and four assists in a his team’s victory over Westlake.
Nyco Vidal (Sr), Midview
In three games last week, Vidal averaged 18.3 points per game, including 22 points against Orange High School. Vidal’s name will be in the Middie record books for awhile, setting the all-time career three point record for Midview last week.
