Amherst Steele Earns Weekly Boys Basketball Player of the Week Honors

Following games on December 14th-20th, the boys basketball player of the week for the Southwestern Conference was announced this afternoon. Below is this week’s honoree:

Austin Bray (Jr)
Amherst Steele
Bray averaged 14.8 points for the week, scoring 19 against North Olmsted on Tuesday.  On Friday the junior guard recorded a double double with 22 points and 11 rebounds in an overtime loss to Olmsted Falls.  The following night, Bray scored 11 and pulled down four rebounds in a close victory over Midview.

Other Notable Performances

Dominic Rini (Sr), Avon
The Eagles went 2-0 in the conference this week with victories over Amherst Steele and Midview with Rini averaging 19 a game.  The senior guard scored 23 points against the Comets while dishing out three assists and scored 15 points with five rebounds and three assists against the Middies.

Michael Candow (So), Olmsted Falls
Candow’s 3-point shot with five seconds remaining in regulation against Amherst Steele sent the game to overtime, where Candow would also hit the game winning field goal with 24 seconds left to help Olmsted Falls defeat Amherst Steele 70-69.  Candow scored 16 on the evening and followed that up with a 12 point performance in his team’s victory over Berea-Midpark.  For the week he averaged 14 ppg, 3.5 assists per game and 3.5 rebounds per game.
