Midview High School finished 16-2 in Southwestern Conference play to win outright the SWC Championship in 2019-20. The Middies, who have now won 12 titles in various leagues, captured their only other SWC Championship in 2016.
Midview (19-3), under the direction of fourth-year Head Coach Jim Brabenec, used a balanced attack to give opponents fits throughout the year. Senior Jonny Manning averages a team-best 18.0 points, 11.6 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 2.5 blocks through 22 games. Senior Marcell Young runs the offense, contributing 6.5 assists and 8.5 points per game. Junior Nyco Vidal and sophomore Aden Gregory are lethal from the outside. Vidal has connected on a single-season school record 69 three-pointers and averages 13.0 points, while Gregory added 36 three-pointers to go along with 11.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Junior Tyler Dawson rounds out the starting five. He contributes 6.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists for the Middies.
Middies earned the second seed in the OHSAA Division I District Tournament at Elyria Catholic, which features all 10 SWC schools. Midview will play the winner of Lakewood and Strongsville February 29 inside Kubuski Gymnasium.
