The conference player of the week poll is back! The Southwestern Conference will hold a weekly poll here at swcohio.net where students, parents and fans can vote for the SWC player of the week! Each week, athletic directors from around the conference will nominate one male and one female student-athlete from their school based off their athletic performances and accomplishments. Voting will open on Monday and close on Wednesdays. Join us every week to vote for the most deserving performances!

SWC Female Player of the Week Nominees
Amherst Steele – Makayla Velasquez (So) Bowling – Velasquez took the individual honors at the Southwestern Conference Tournament on Sunday with a 518 series.
Avon Lake – Arianna Negron (Sr) Basketball – Negron scored 11 points including 2 foul shots with no time on the clock in a victory against Amherst and scored 19 points on Saturday in a win against Lakewood.
Berea-Midpark – Marissa Jones (Fr) Gymnastics – Jones helped her Titans finish second overall at the SWC Gymnastics Championship on Sunday. She finished first in the all-around, second on vault, first on bars, first on beam and first on the floor routine.
Midview – Competition Cheer Team – The Middies Game Day squad captured third place in Medium Non-Building Division and its traditional Competition squad finished in 8th place in the Small Varsity Non-Building Division at UCA Nationals this past weekend. The event took place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Disney.
North Olmsted – Julie Merdita (So) Gymnastics – Competing at the SWC Championship Gymnastic Meet on Sunday at the North Olmsted Recreation Center, Merdita placed sixth on the beam and on the floor routine.
North Ridgeville – Lauren Steinbrunner (So) Swimming and Diving – Steinbrunner qualified for two individual events and a relay for the upcoming district meet, breaking three school records along the way.
Olmsted Falls – Mara Deselich (Sr) Gymnastics – Helped lead the Bulldog Gymnastics Team to back to back
conference championships on Sunday afternoon by finishing in 1st place in the vault; 3rd on the bars; 2nd on the beam; 5th on the floor; and 2nd in the all around.
Westlake – Jenny Wisniewski (Sr) Bowling – The senior captain led her team to repeat as Southwest Conference Bowling Champions by winning the Post Season Tournament this weekend. Her 538 series was 2nd highest in the tournament, and placed her 3rd highest overall individual in the SWC for the season.
SWC Male Player of the Week Nominees
Amherst Steele – George Fayer (So) Basketball – Fayer hit a game winning shot with one second left in Overtime against Avon Lake on Tuesday.
Avon Lake – Ryan Shinko (Sr) Basketball – Shinko scored 14 points in a win against Lakewood on Friday and Scored 26 points in a win against Bay on Saturday.
Berea-Midpark – Pino Dipierro (Sr) Wrestling – Dipierro finished the conference duals section of his career on Thursday, defeating his opponent from Midview and securing an unblemished record of 35-0 in Southwestern Conference Duals through his four years as a Titan.
Midview – Nyco Vidal (Jr) Basketball – Connected on 6-of-9 three point attempts while adding 3 rebounds and 2 assists in a 22-point effort against North Olmsted on Tuesday then hit 3-of-8 from long range to score 11 points and collected 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in a win over Olmsted Falls.
North Olmsted – Braden Martens (So) Swimming and Diving – Eagles sophomore swimmer placed 2nd overall in the SWC conference for the boys’s 500 yard freestyle (5:11.31) 5th overall in the boys 200 yard IM. Martens qualified for the district swim meet in three events: 500 freestyle, medley relay, and the 400 free relay.
North Ridgeville – Andrew Margolin (Fr) Swimming and Diving – Margolin qualified for the district meet in both the 100 backstroke and the 100 butterfly while also making it in the boys 200 medley relay.
Olmsted Falls – Jack Surtman (Sr) Swimming and Diving – Jack qualified in all four events for the district meet; the 50 freestyle, the 100 butterfly, and broke the school records in the 200 medley relay where he swam the butterfly and in the 200 free relay where he was the anchor.
Westlake – Jack Finucane (Jr) Bowling – Finucane led the boys bowling team with a 582 series in the SWC Postview Tournament as the Demons captured their first-ever Boys Bowling SWC Championship.
