Winter Week 7 – Vote for the Southwestern Conference Player of the Week!

The conference player of the week poll is back!  The Southwestern Conference will hold a weekly poll here at swcohio.net where students, parents and fans can vote for the SWC player of the week!  Each week, athletic directors from around the conference will nominate one male and one female student-athlete from their school based off their athletic performances and accomplishments.  Voting will open on Monday and close on Wednesdays.  Join us every week to vote for the most deserving performances!

**Some votes will be disqualified if voting is found to be done illegally**

SWC Female Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst Steele – Makayla Velasquez (S0) Bowling –  Velasquez won the North Shore Bowling Conference Championships on Sunday with a 569 series. She lead the Lady Comets to a 2nd place team finish.

Avon – Alyssa McLellon (Jr) Basketball – McLellon scored 28 points and had 5 rebounds in a win over Midview on Saturday.

Avon Lake – Amber Wartham (Sr) Bowling – Wartham led the Avon Lake girls Varsity Squad to first place in the NSBC conference finals. The senior was just 11 pins away from the lead series of the day. Her 556 Series was enough to earn her third place in the tournament. She had a high game of 207 with a 190 and 161.

Berea-Midpark – Shura Ermakov (Sr) Indoor Track & Field – At Spire, Ermakov won the 400 meter run, had a PR in her 2nd place finish in the long jump, 2nd in the 60 hurdles and was on the winning 4×400 team which set a school record.  At BW, Ermakov assisted in the winning 4×200 relay.

Lakewood – Morgan Harper (Sr) Basketball – Harper had 12 points and 13 rebounds in a win against North Olmsted and 16 points and 6 rebounds in an upset victory over Midview.

Midview – Autumn Vance (Jr) Basketball – Vance scored 14 points against Lakewood and 15 points against Avon last week. For the year, she is averaging 9.5 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists in 18 games.

North Olmsted – Sam Wengstrom (Sr) Basketball – Wengstrom led the Eagles’ Girl’s Basketball team with 13 points on Saturday against Lakewood.  Sam plans to attend the University of Toledo and major in Political Science as well as Business.

North Ridgeville -Hannah Braz (Jr) Gymnastics – Braz placed 2nd all-around with a score of 30.5 on Tuesday, January 28th against North Olmsted, Lakewood, Shaker Heights, and Magnificat.

Olmsted Falls – Jessica Holcomb (Sr) Basketball – During wins vs North Ridgeville and Amherst “Tex” lead
the stifling defensive attack while averaging 3 assists, 2 steals and making three 3pt field goals.

SWC Male Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst Steele – Clay Carpenter (Sr) Wrestling –  Carpenter won his match, at 195 lbs, versus North Olmsted 5-3, helping clinch the Win for the Comets on Senior Night last Thursday.

Avon – Cole Warren (Sr) Basketball – The Senior guard had a double double (14 Points and 10 Rebounds) including four 3-pointers vs Avon Lake to help the Eagles defeat the Shoreman 82-51.

Avon Lake – Brandon Nieding (Jr) Bowling – Nieding finished second place overall in the NSBC finals. The Junior bowled a 701 series (3 games) with a high game of 268 followed up with a 175 and a 258 to lead the team to a 2nd place finish at the NSBC Finals.

Berea-Midpark – J.T. Jackson (Sr) Bowling – Jackson helped Berea-Midpark win its fourth consecutive North Shore Bowling Conference on Sunday.  The senior was the first place individual at the tournament with his high game of 247 and high series of 716.

Lakewood – Will Holden (Sr) Hockey – Holden led the way in two two division wins last week against Westlake and Twinsburg to raise the team record to 18-9 on the season.

Midview – Nyco Vidal (Jr) Basketball – Vidal scored 18 points (six three-pointers) against Lakewood and 13 points (three three-pointers) against Avon. He shot 45% from long range last week. For the season, is averaging 12.4 points and shooting 40.8% from long range.

North Olmsted – Joseph Wren (Fr) Bowling – Wren was the high roller for the Eagles’ Boys Bowling team with a 641 series.  The Eagles took a 5th place finish at the North Shore Bowling Conference on Saturday. He also helped the Eagles earn a victory over Avon Lake this past week.

Olmsted Falls – Brennan Stang (Sr) Wrestling – Stang has recorded three straight pins in the last three dual meets for the Bulldogs.  He is 17-10 on the season.
