Winter Week 6 – Vote for the Southwestern Conference Player of the Week!

The conference player of the week poll is back!  The Southwestern Conference will hold a weekly poll here at swcohio.net where students, parents and fans can vote for the SWC player of the week!  Each week, athletic directors from around the conference will nominate one male and one female student-athlete from their school based off their athletic performances and accomplishments.  Voting will open on Monday and close on Wednesdays.  Join us every week to vote for the most deserving performances!

**Some votes will be disqualified if voting is found to be done illegally**

SWC Female Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst Steele – Sierra Dorobek (Fr) Swimming & Diving – Dorobek won the 500 Free and the 100 Breaststroke at the SWC Championships this past Saturday.

Avon – Kat Benny (Sr) Swimming & Diving – This weekend at the SWC Championships, Kat had 3 wins.  She came in 1st place in the 100 back, 100 free, & 200 Medley Relay.

Avon Lake – Anna Molina (Jr) Gymnastics – Molina was the overall champion in the Shoregals meet against St. Joseph Academy and Fairview with a total score of 35.650.  She was first in bars (8.85, beam (8.95), and floor (8.95).

Berea-Midpark – Abby Calaway (So) Swimming & Diving – Calaway reached the podium four times on Saturday at the Southwestern Conference Meet.  The sophomore finished third in the 100 Freestyle and set a new school record in the 100 Backstroke with her 2nd place finish.  Calaway was also a part of two relay teams that placed in the top six.

Lakewood – Sistina Simcox (Jr) Swimming & Diving – Simcox finished 4th in the 200 Medley Relay, 3rd  in the 50 Freestyle, 7th in the 100 Freestyle and 3rd in the 400 Freestyle.

Midview – Izzy Patarini (Jr) Basketball – Patarini averaged 18.5 points and 7 rebounds last week. In an upset of North Ridgeville, she scored 19  points and had 8 rebounds. Against, Amherst she poured in 18 points and 6 rebounds. For the season, Patarini is averaging 11.25 points and 6 rebounds through 16 games.

North Olmsted – Elena Kobak (So) Swimming & Diving – Kobak placed 6th at the SWC swim championships in the 100 yard breaststroke with a personal best time of 1:18.4

North Ridgeville – Lauren Steinbrunner (So) Swimming & Diving – Steinbrunner took sixth in the 100 Freestyle at the SWC Championship Meet.

Olmsted Falls – Casey Schmidt (Jr) Swimming & Diving – Schmidt finished third and set a school record in SWC Diving Championship on Friday evening and then swam on two relay teams on Saturday afternoon in the conference Championship Meet.

Westlake – Grace Kelsheimer (Jr) Swimming & Diving – Kelsheimer took the gold medal in the girls diving championships on Friday night.  Grace had never dove competitively prior to this year.  She is also a 2 x Cheer SWC Tumbling Champion

SWC Male Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst Steele – Chase Aruskevicius (So) Swimming & Diving – Aruskevicius helped the Comets to their 5th Straight SWC Championship this past Saturday. He won the 500 Free and the 100 Backstroke and he was on the winning 200 Medley and 400 Free Relays.

Avon – Dominic Rini (Jr) Basketball – Rini drilled two important three-pointers down the stretch to help Avon beat Avon Lake.

Avon Lake – John Perry (Sr) Wrestling – Perry took first place in 138 lb. weight class at the West Holmes Knights Invitational and won his dual match on Thursday as well against Olmsted Falls.  Perry is 26-2 on the season.

Berea-Midpark – Zach Porch (Jr) Wrestling – Porch went undefeated, 6-0 on the week in his matchups.  The junior pinned North Ridgeville’s Edward Powers in 47 seconds on Thursday night and then went 5-0, including three wins, at the Anthony Wayne Duals on Saturday in Whitehouse, Ohio.

Lakewood – Brandyn Bates (So) Wrestling – Bates is 25-5 on the season at 220 lbs weight class. Bates helped his team defeat Westlake and keep the Amherst match close by winning his two matches last week.

Midview – Aden Gregory (So) Basketball – Gregory averaged 12.5 points in wins over North Ridgeville and Amherst last week. He scored 13 points and had 3 rebounds at North Ridgeville before adding 12 points and 4 boards against the Comets. For the season, Gregory is averaging 10.5 points, while shooting 53.3% from the field, including 43.3% from beyond the arc.

North Olmsted – Avery Jones (Sr) Wrestling – Jones is 12-4 on the season. This week he finished 2nd at the Orange High School Duals and won his individual match vs Avon this past Thursday.

North Ridgeville – Bryce Neumann (Jr) Basketball – Neumann scored 25 points on Friday night, including seven three-pointers.

Olmsted Falls – Evan Bolton (Jr) Swimming & Diving – Bolton finished on the podium in all four of his swims Saturday morning at the SWC Championship Meet: 200 Medley Relay, 200 IM, 100 Breaststroke, 400 Freestyle Relay.

Westlake – Luke Heberle (Jr) Swimming & Diving – Heberle was the gold medalist in 2 events and reached the podium in 2 others to lead the Demons to a third place finish in the Championship meet and overall a tie for 2nd for the season.
