2019-20 Southwestern Conference Preview – Boys Bowling

With the winter athletic season beginning this week, the Southwestern Conference is excited to launch its Southwestern Conference Winter Preview. The preview will be a tradition for faithful Southwestern Conference followers and will signal the beginning of the much anticipated 2019-20 winter athletic seasons and the first step on the pathway to this year’s Southwestern Conference Champions.

Follow along this week as we preview each of the Winter sports as they begin their 2019-20 campaigns:

Monday Nov 18 – Bowling & Gymnastics
Tuesday Nov 19 – Swimming/Diving & Hockey
Wednesday Nov 20 – Wrestling
Thursday Nov 21 – Boys Basketball
Friday Nov 22 – Girls Basketball


Amherst Steele

Head Coach: Bryan Goldthorpe & Steven Taylor

Years at school: Goldthorpe (5th), Taylor (2nd)

Last Year’s Conference Finish: 7th in SWC

Number of Returning Starters: 4

Athletes to Watch: Zachary Dull (Sr), J.P. Gregory (Fr), Thomas Heider (So), Anthony Rodriguez (Jr), Chandon Weisner-Marcano (Jr), Zachary Zakrajsek (S0).

2019 Season Outlook: With four returning letter winners and the addition of J.P. Gregory, the Comets should battle for the top of the SWC this season.


Avon

Head Coach: Sean Sindelar

Years at school: 2

Last Year’s Conference Finish: 9th in SWC

Number of Returning Starters: 5

Athletes to Watch: Brenton Dill (Fr), Aidan Reding (So).

2019 Season Outlook: With a young roster, the Eagles look to continue to grow as the season progressses.


Avon Lake

Head Coach: Rich Williams

Years at school: 4

Last Year’s Conference Finish: 6th in SWC

Number of Returning Starters: 8

Athletes to Watch: Connor Gallagher (Sr), Branden Neiding (Jr).

2019 Season Outlook: The Shoremen look for Connor Gallagher, Branden Neiding, Evan Molloy, and Brandon Holton to set the bar for high scores. The return of Loschetter and the addition of Matt Collier is great news for the program as coaches. Loschetter is a current PBA Bowler and is recognized as one the top bowlers in the sport. Matt Collier is a youth director for the Greater Lorain Bowling Association.


Berea-Midpark

Head Coach: Sharon Zeszotek

Years at school: 7

Last Year’s Conference Finish: 1st in SWC

Number of Returning Starters: 3

Athletes to Watch: Gavin Fouts (Sr), Nick Guzowski (Sr), JT Jackson (Sr)

2019 Season Outlook: The Titans look to have another strong competitive varsity boys team after last year’s conference title with the addition of the boys coming off last years JV team.


Lakewood

Head Coach: Don Murrey

Years at school: 3

Last Year’s Conference Finish: 10th in SWC

Number of Returning Starters: 3

Athletes to Watch: Nate Dorn (Sr), Nate White (Sr)

2019 Season Outlook: The Rangers are young but they do have two strong seniors that will assist in building the team for this season and for seasons to come.


Midview

Head Coach: Joe Harrison

Years at school: 5

Last Year’s Conference Finish: 8th in SWC

Number of Returning Starters: 3

Athletes to Watch: Dylan Daniels (Jr), Colby Hamilton (Jr).

2019 Season Outlook: The Middies will be in a rebuilding year after losing three seniors from last year. Midview will rely on returning letter men Daniels, Hamilton and Josh Harrison to provide leadership to a large cast of young bowlers vying for varsity playing time.


North Olmsted

Head Coach: Tom Hart

Years at school: 15

Last Year’s Conference Finish: 4th in SWC

Number of Returning Starters: 3

Athletes to Watch: Tyler Horsfall (Jr), Logan McClain (Sr), Christian Stuver (So).

2019 Season Outlook: The Eagle boys team only returns a few bowlers with experience. The team will need a few new members to take the positions of the four graduating athletes off of last seasons team.


North Ridgeville

Head Coach: Frank Kotas

Years at school: 15

Last Year’s Conference Finish: 5th in SWC

Number of Returning Starters: 4

Athletes to Watch: Jacob Beatty (So), Dylan Mishak (Sr)

2019 Season Outlook: The Rangers are looking forward to an exciting season. North Ridgeville has a mix of returning lettermen and new members of the team this year with outstanding talent on their side.


Olmsted Falls

Head Coach: Chad Kuchenmeister

Years at school: 3

Last Year’s Conference Finish: 2nd in SWC

Number of Returning Starters: 3

Athletes to Watch: Jerrod Green, Logan Sharp, Keegan Skoczen

2019 Season Outlook: Excited for another season, the Bulldogs boys team is looking to defend their Northeast Ohio Division 1 District Title and a 7th place finish at States against teams in the SWC, GCIBL and NSBC.


Westlake

Head Coach: Jim Eppele

Years at school: 4

Last Year’s Conference Finish: 3rd in SWC

Number of Returning Starters: 5

Athletes to Watch: Andrew Bodi (Jr), Tristain Braatz (Sr), Shane Burich (Jr), Vinny Corrado (Sr), Jack Finucane (Jr), Nick Mayle (Sr), Kevin Mayle (Sr), Paul Rossander (Jr)

2019 Season Outlook: Coach Eppele is optimistic with most of last year’s team returning. All five varsity starters have at least two years experience bowling at the varsity level. The Demons have plenty of depth with a strong JV squad – most returning from league championship last year.
