Avon Lake High School, fueled by individual medalist Tyler Madden and co-runner-up Sean Laverty, earned a hard-fought victory at the 2019 Southwestern Conference Boys Golf Tournament Thursday (September 19) on the Legacy 18 of Sweetbriar Golf Club in Avon Lake.
Madden fired a three-over par 73 from the Blue Tees. Laverty followed with a 75, while Ryan Shinko had an 82 and Owen Conroy shot an 86 to give the Shoremen a team score of 316.
Avon High School finished runner-up in the team standings. The Eagles accumulated 322 points from co-runner-up Nolan King (75), Jack Gerborg (79), Brenton Dill (81) and Matt Granitto (87).
Westlake High School (327) place third, while Amherst High School (339) was fourth and Olmsted Falls High School (342) finished fifth. Midview High School (364), North Ridgeville High School (368), North Olmsted High School (372), Berea-Midpark High School (390) and Lakewood High School (413) completed the team standings.
Olmsted Falls’ Ben Scheef and Westlake’s William Fankhauser tied for fourth with a 77, while Gerborg and Midview’s Bryan Stone had a 79. Amherst’s Jacob Fitzpatrick, Dill and Westlake’s RJ Zanotti rounded out the top 10 with a score of 81.
