Spring Week 3 – Vote for the Southwestern Conference Player of the Week!

For the 2018-19 athletic year, the Southwestern Conference will hold a weekly poll here at swcohio.net where students, parents and fans can vote for the SWC player of the week!  Each week, athletic directors from around the conference will nominate one male and one female student-athlete from their school based off their athletic performances and accomplishments.  Voting will open on Monday and close on Wednesdays.  Join us every week to vote for the most deserving performances!

**Some votes will be disqualified if voting is found to be done illegally**

SWC Female Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst – Madison O’Berg (Sr) Softball – Last week, O’Berg was 2-0 on the mound with 14 strikeouts against Avon and Westlake. At the plate she hit .430 with Grand Slam and 5 RBI.

Avon -Allison Kortowich (Sr) Lacrosse – The senior scored four goals and had an assist in the Eagles victory over Wadsworth.

Avon Lake – Abby Schillinger (Jr) Lacrosse – The junior scored 4 goals and had 2 assists in a 20-2 victory over Painesville Riverside.

Berea-Midpark – Bridie Bricker (Jr) Softball – Bricker has been on a tear, helping the Titans go 3-1 last week.  From the plate, the junior was 11 of 16 (.688 Avg) with six extra-base hits, including a home run, six runs scored and 10 RBI.

Midview – Madisyn Wendling (Jr) Track and Field – Led the 2nd and 3rd place 4×100 and 4×200 teams at Brookside. Edging the 4×100 team closer to the Midview school record. Also placed 5th in the 100m and now runs in the 4×400 which placed 5th. On Monday she was part of the winning 4×100 4×200  and 4×400 teams and won the 200 against EC.

North Olmsted – Kate Kennedy (Sr) Track and Field – Kennedy set a PR in the mile twice and ran in four events in two meets last week.  She helped the Eagles 4×800 relay team win third place at the Brookside Invitational.

Olmsted Falls – Lauren Gumeny (Sr) Track and Field – Help lead the girls team to a 3rd place finish at the Beachwood Invitational.  In competing in three events, Lauren finished in 6th in the 100 m hurdles (17.52), 3rd in the 300 m hurdles (49.74), and a member of the 1st place 4×800 m team.

SWC Male Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst – Jaret Prete (Sr) Track and Field – Prete topped 64 competitors in the Discus at the 64th Annual Comet Relays with a throw of 159′ 2″.

Avon – Jack Hindman (So) Tennis – Hindman was the runner up at the Lorain County Tournament and is 11-4 overall at second singles.
Avon Lake – John Perry (Jr) Lacrosse – Perry scored 4 goals to lead Avon Lake to a 6-4 victory over Avon in Lacrosse.

Berea-Midpark – Kade Swisher (So) Baseball – Swisher made Berea-Midpark history on Thursday when he threw the first no-hitter for the Titans.  The sophomore struck out six in the five-inning run-ruled shorten 11-0 victory.  On the week from the plate, Swisher was 6 of 11 (.545 Avg) with a home run, a double and scoring seven times.

Midview – Edwin Ralat (Sr) Track and Field – Won and set meet records at the Brookside Invitational in the 4×100 and 4×200. Won the 400 running the fastest time for a Middie since 2006. Also placed 4th in the 4×400. Earned Brookside Invitational Meet MVP. Against EC on Monday he won the 4×100 4×200 4×400 and 400m. He is a captain and holds 2 Midview school records (4×100, 4×200).

North Olmsted – Ben Tomcho (Sr) Track and Field – Tomcho had two third place finishes in the 200M and 400M races at the Brookside Invitational.

Olmsted Falls – Joe Backus (Sr) Track and Field – Backus helped lead the boy’s team to a 1st place finish at the Beachwood Invitational with a 1st place finish in the 1600 m with a time of 4:36.61 and a 1st place finish in the 3200 m with a PR time of 9:44.80.
