Winter Week 8 – Vote for the Southwestern Conference Player of the Week!

For the 2018-19 athletic year, the Southwestern Conference will hold a weekly poll here at swcohio.net where students, parents and fans can vote for the SWC player of the week!  Each week, athletic directors from around the conference will nominate one male and one female student-athlete from their school based off their athletic performances and accomplishments.  Voting will open on Monday and close on Wednesdays.  Join us every week to vote for the most deserving performances!

**Some votes will be disqualified if voting is found to be done illegally**

SWC Female Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst – Alexis Goldthorpe (Sr) Bowling – The senior qualified for the OHSAA District Tournament after bowling a 483 Series, which placed her 3rd individually at the North Ridgeville OHSAA Sectional Tournament on Sunday.

Avon – Kyli Warnken (So) Hockey – The sophomore goalie had 32 saves in Avon’s 6-3 tournament victory over Parma.

Avon Lake – Rayana Meyers (Jr) Bowling – Meyers finished second at the Division I Sectional Bowling tournament with a high game of 208 and a 515 total, which helped the team qualify for districts.

Berea-Midpark – Laney Fouts (So) Bowling – Fouts led the Titans and all scores with games of 182, 165 and 177 to give her 1st place as an individual and to help the Titans win the OHSAA Sectional Tournament.

Lakewood – Megan Ashley (Jr) Bowling – Ashley finished second in individually qualifying on Sunday at the Division 1 Sectional Bowling Tournament.  She will be competing at the District tournament this coming Saturday at Roseland Lanes.

 

North Olmsted – Emma Spriggs (So) Gymnastics – Sophomore gymnast and cheerleader competed and excelled in both sports all winter long for the Eagles.

North Ridgeville -Leia Smith (Jr) Basketball – Smith scored 14 points vs Berea-Midpark and 20 points vs North Olmsted this past week. She also had 6 steals, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks vs North Olmsted on Saturday. The last two games she also shot 90% from the free throw line.

Olmsted Falls – Delaney Condosta (Fr) Bowling – Condosta became the first girl freshmen bowler in Olmsted Falls history to qualify for the district tournament. She bowled a 474 series which was 4th best at the West Cuyahoga/Lorain County Sectional tournament which qualified her for the D1 District Tournament this Saturday.  

Westlake – Haley Brennan (Sr) Gymnastics – Brennan finished first on the bars and on her floor routine at this weekend’s OHSAA Sectional Tournament.

SWC Male Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst – Russel Hellinger (Sr) Wrestling – Hellinger won the 220 pound championship at the Southwestern Conference wrestling tournament on Saturday.

Avon – Tommy Sear (Sr) Wrestling – Sear won the 145 pound weight class at Saturday’s SWC Wrestling Tournament to help the Eagles capture their first wrestling title.  Sear is a 3-time SWC champion.

Avon Lake – John Perry (Jr) Wrestling – The junior won the 138 pound weight class at Saturday’s SWC Wrestling Tournament.

Berea-Midpark – Pino Dipierro (Jr) Wrestling – Dipierro was crowned a 3-time SWC champion on Saturday after winning the 113 pound division with a major decision and two pins under a minute.

Lakewood – Tommy Sala (Sr) Basketball – Sala drained two free throws in the final 1.5 seconds as the Rangers edged ranked Bay Village 52-51.

Midview -Daniel Bucknavich (Jr) Wrestling – Bucknavich won the 285 pound weight class on Saturday at the SWC Wrestling Tournament to remain undefeated on the season.

North Olmsted – Sam Bring (Sr) Basketball – Bring scored 21 and 18 points in games last week.  He made 13 three-pointers on the week.  He tied the single game school record with seven made three-pointers against Amherst.

North Ridgeville – Patrick MacGregor (Sr) Wrestling – The senior finished second in the 220 pound weight class at Saturday’s SWC Wrestling Tournament.

Olmsted Falls – Caiden Fetterman (Sr) Wrestling – The senior captain won the 182 pound division at Saturday’s SWC Wrestling Tournament.  Battling back from injury at the beginning of the year, Fetterman finished the season 11-2.

Westlake – Liam Kruger (Sr) Wrestling – Kruger won the 160 pound weight class at the SWC Tournament over the weekend, pinning three opponents in under a minute.
