Week 4 – Vote for the Southwestern Conference Player of the Week!

For the 2018-19 athletic year, the Southwestern Conference will hold a weekly poll here at swcohio.net where students, parents and fans can vote for the SWC player of the week!  Each week, athletic directors from around the conference will nominate one male and one female student-athlete from their school based off their athletic performances and accomplishments.  Voting will open on Monday and close on Wednesdays.  Join us every week to vote for the most deserving performances!

**Some votes will be disqualified if voting is found to be done illegally**

SWC Female Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst – Julianna Gilette (Jr) Golf – The junior golfer shot a career low 46 at Sweetbriar last Thursday.

Avon – Julia Porchetta (Sr) Golf – The senior has shot 42 or under in the last five matches.  She is averaging 16 puts per nine holes and has three rounds of under 40.

Avon Lake – Allie Heschel (Sr) Golf – Heschel scored a hat trick (3 goals) in the Shoregals 3-1 victory over North Ridgeville.

Berea-Midpark – Kelly McCarthy (Jr) Soccer – McCarthy helped the Titans to a 2-0 record for the week. On Wednesday she scored two goals in the team’s victory over Midview and on Saturday recorded an assist and played great defense in a shutout of Valley Forge.

Lakewood – Kara Nieves (Sr) Cheer – The senior cheerleader was nominated for being the most enthusiastic at Lakewood’s home football game against Olmsted Falls on Friday evening.

Midview – Emily Lockhart (Sr) Volleyball – The senior libero collected a total of 24 digs in two matches last week and has accumulated 139 on the year.  She also has a 91.7 serving percentage on the season.

North Olmsted – Otillia Oita (Jr) Tennis – The Eagles first singles player went 3-0 on the week and is 11-2 on the season.

North Ridgeville – Lauren Milner (Sr) Soccer – The senior captain for the Rangers scored the lone goal in a close match-up with Avon Lake.

Olmsted Falls – Alyson Veverka (So) Golf – The sophomore had two career best rounds last week, recording a 38 at Bob-O-Links and a 78 at the 18-hole Medina Bee Invitational.

Westlake – Erica Francesconi (Sr) Cross Country – The senior finished sixth overall out of a field of 305 runners at the Boardman Spartan Cross Country Invitational.  Francesconi finished with a time of 19:27.5, an average mile time of 6:17.

SWC Male Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst – Khennedy Scagliozzo (Sr) Football – Scagliozzo set a school record for touchdowns in a game with six against Midview.  The senior ran for 162 yards on 24 carries for five rushing touchdowns.  He also had a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the win.

Avon – Mark Steinmetz (Sr) Football – The senior rushed eight times for 121 yards.  He scored a rushing touchdown as well as a receiving touchdown and an interception in the Eagles 49-21 victory over North Olmsted.

Avon Lake – Edison Lemanowicz (Sr) Soccer – This past week Lemanowicz scored four goals in three games.  The senior scored two goals against both Elyria and Willoughby South, and created a number of quality opportunities in the Shoremen’s match with North Ridgeville.

Berea-Midpark – Chase Ivancic (Jr) Football – Ivancic topped his two-interception performance last week against Lakewood with a three-interception game in the Titans 52-27 victory over North Ridgeville on Friday night.

Lakewood – Malvin Gblah (Sr) Soccer – The senior forward scored two goals and recorded one assist on the week, helping the Rangers go 2-0 on the week against North Olmsted and Lincoln West.

Midview – Tyler Smith (Fr) Football – Smith had 19 carries for 145 yards and two touchdowns as well as a 2-point conversion to lead Midview’s freshmen football team to a 28-14 victory over Amherst.

North Olmsted – Shane Cairns (Sr) Soccer – The senior captain scored three goals and recorded an assist last week.  He now has six goals on the season and is also the Eagles place kicker on the football team.

North Ridgeville – Alec Matej (Sr) Golf – Matej helped the Rangers go 1-1 on the week.  He scored a 31 (-1) against Lakewood and a 40 against Westlake at Avon Oaks Country Club.

Olmsted Falls – Nick Mills (Sr) Golf – Mills helped the Bulldogs to a 3-0 week with his rounds of 37, 39 and 40.

Westlake – Will Fankhauser (Fr) Golf – The freshman helped the Titans go 1-1 on the week with his rounds of 40 and 41.
