Winter Week 1 – Vote for the Southwestern Conference Player of the Week!

For the 2018-19 athletic year, the Southwestern Conference will hold a weekly poll here at swcohio.net where students, parents and fans can vote for the SWC player of the week!  Each week, athletic directors from around the conference will nominate one male and one female student-athlete from their school based off their athletic performances and accomplishments.  Voting will open on Monday and close on Wednesdays.  Join us every week to vote for the most deserving performances!

**Some votes will be disqualified if voting is found to be done illegally**

SWC Female Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst – Kamryn Dziak (Sr) Basketball – Dziak helped the Comets basketball team get out to a 3-1 conference start on the season.  She is averaging 18 points per game and recently scored 21 in the team’s victory over Lakewood.

Avon – Ashlee Torber (Jr) Basketball – The junior three-sport athlete is averaging 12 points and 3.5 assists per game.  Torber scored 16 points over the weekend against Olmsted Falls.

Avon Lake – Arianna Negron (Jr) Basketball – Negron helped the Shoregals go 2-0 on the week.  In the victory over Midview, Negron scored 15 points and had eight rebounds and five steals.  On Saturday, Negron’s 18 points, ten rebounds and seven steals helped Avon Lake win over North Olmsted.

Berea-Midpark – Laney Fouts (So) Bowling – The sophomore had a tremendous week for the Titans, helping the team go 2-0, bowling series of 325 and 367 during the week and finishing 11th individually in the Eagle Challenge.

Lakewood – Asia McAuliffe (Jr) Basketball – McAuliffe scored 15 points in the Ranger’s game this weekend against Amherst

Midview – Alexis Qualls (Jr) Bowling – Qualls bowled a league best 517 series and 205 game at the SWC Preview over the weekend.

North Olmsted – Hannah Groden (Sr) Bowling – The senior captain has an average 178 on the season and bowled a high game of 227 against Avon Lake this year.

North Ridgeville – Leia Smith (Jr) Basketball – Smith is off to a great start this season, averaging 19 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.8 steals and 2.3 assists per game.  This past week Smith had 26 points, four blocks and six steals in the win over Midview.

Olmsted Falls – Clare Kelly (Sr) Basketball – The senior captain helped the Bulldogs to three victories on the week, defeating Avon Lake, North Olmsted and Avon by averaging 20.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.

Westlake – Abby Matalavage (Sr) Basketball – Matalavage helped the Lady Demons go 2-0 on the week, converting two critical free throws in Wednesday’s win over Amherst and scoring 26 in the team’s victory over Berea-Midpark.

SWC Male Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst – Brady Grove (So) Hockey – The sophomore goalie has played in five games, stopping 62 of the 63 shots he has faced.  The Comet hockey team is 5-0 in games which he is the goalie.

Avon – Michael Perusek (Fr) Hockey – The freshman is leading the Eagles hockey team in points on the season and scored two goals and had an assist over the weekend.

Avon Lake – Abud Salem (Sr) Wrestling – The senior won the 160-pound championship with a pin in the finals of the Cobos Insurance Classic.

Berea-Midpark – Pino Dipierro (Jr) Wrestling – The junior went 7-0 at the North Coast Classic Tournament over the weekend (6 pins and 1 tech-fall) to win the 113-pound division and help the Titans win the team title.

Lakewood – Yousef Awad (Jr) Wrestling – Awad pinned all three opponents to win the Dean Kinley Championship Saturday to win the 285-pound weight class.

Midview – Daniel Bucknavich (Jr) Wrestling – The junior went 5-0 on the opening weekend of the wrestling season.  Competing at the Solon Comet Classic, Bucknavich pinned his way to the 285-pound title.

North Olmsted – Jake Hirz (Sr) Hockey – Hirz scored two goals and recorded an assist in the Eagles comeback victory over Benedictine.  He has four goals and two assists on the season.

North Ridgeville -Dylan Mishak (Jr) Bowling – Recognized in the Chronicle, Mishak has one of the area’s top averages with a 206, ranked sixth overall.

Olmsted Falls – Chuck Backus (Sr) Basketball – Backus had 14 points and eight rebounds to go with his five steals and three assists in the Bulldogs victory over Strongsville.

Westlake – Anthony Rego (Sr) Basketball – The senior scored 27 points on Friday night to help the Demons win their first game of the season and start conference play 1-0.
