Week 5 – Vote for the Southwestern Conference Player of the Week!

For the 2018-19 athletic year, the Southwestern Conference will hold a weekly poll here at swcohio.net where students, parents and fans can vote for the SWC player of the week!  Each week, athletic directors from around the conference will nominate one male and one female student-athlete from their school based off their athletic performances and accomplishments.  Voting will open on Monday and close on Wednesdays.  Join us every week to vote for the most deserving performances!

**Some votes will be disqualified if voting is found to be done illegally**

SWC Female Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst – Elley Vorhees (Fr) Soccer – The freshmen scored the opening goal in the 3-1 victory over Avon Lake.  Vorhees now has four goals and four assists on the season.

Avon – Abby Sidloski (Sr) Cross Country – Sidloski ran one of her best races of the season and finished second on her team at the Strongsville Invite, helping the Eagles finish 12th out of 28 teams.

Avon Lake – Riley Mullen (Fr) Cross Country – The freshman finished fifth out of 135 runners with a time of 19:43 as Avon Lake won the Widewater Invitational.  The time puts Mullen 12th on the all-time best time list for the Shoregals.

Berea-Midpark – Ali Lash (Sr) and Zoe Treher (Jr) Tennis – The Titans first doubles team went 3-1 at the two-day SWC Tennis Tournament and finished fifth overall.

Lakewood – Abby Sacha (So) Cross Country – Sacha finished sixth overall out of 101 runners at the Valley Forge Patriot Invitational with her time of 20:37.7

Midview – Gretchen Hack (Sr) Volleyball – The senior setter collected 80 assists on 292 attempts over three matches last week.  Hack recorded a 95.8% serve percentage and four aces.  Defensively she had 24 digs and had two solo and two assisted blocks at the net.

North Olmsted – Savannah Porter (Sr) Golf/Cheer – Porter shot a 9-hole low score of 47 this past week.

North Ridgeville – Eve Figueroa (Sr) Tennis – In a closely contested match with Fairview, the senior took the third set 10-8 to secure a Rangers singles victory and a team win in their last home match of the season.

Olmsted Falls – Ellie Goetz (So) Tennis – The third singles player finished fourth overall in the SWC Tennis Tournament and finished the season with a 6-2 record.

Westlake – Emma Peeler (Sr) Tennis – The first singles player for the Demons won the SWC Tennis Tournament.

SWC Male Player of the Week Nominees

Amherst – Danny Makurski (Sr) Football – Makruski had 13 rushes for 143 yards and three touchdowns along with three receptions for 24 yards in the Comets 45-38 win over Berea-Midpark.

Avon – Jett Wieber (S0) Cross Country – The sophomore finished 21st overall at the Strongsville Invite with his time of 17:00.74

Avon Lake – Matt Henry (Fr) Cross Country – Henry finished ninth out of 175 runners with a time of 17:18 as Avon Lake won the Widewater Invitational.  Henry’s time is the second fastest for a Shoreman freshmen in Avon Lake history.

Berea-Midpark – Trevor Bycznski (Sr) Football – The senior made it into the OHSAA record books on Friday night by throwing for 550 yards and three touchdowns.  The 550 yards is good for the 15th most passing yards in a single game in OHSAA history.

Lakewood – Cormac Peppard-Kramer (Jr) Cross Country – The junior finished fifth overall out of 131 runners at the Valley Forge Patriot Invitational with his time of 16:48.4

North Olmsted – Travis Vitaz (Sr) Golf – Vitaz shot an 81 at the SWC Golf Tournament for his best 18-hole round of the season.  The senior finished tied for first on the team at the championship round.

North Ridgeville – Shaun Crawford (Jr) Soccer – The junior scored two goals in the Rangers 3-0 victory over North Olmsted.

Olmsted Falls – Jack Spellacy (Sr) Football – The senior captain rushed 18 times for 134 yards and three touchdowns as well as two touchdown receptions in the Bulldogs 48-14 win over North Ridgeville.

Westlake – JJ Coleman (Sr) Football – The running back rushed 33 times for 203 yards and 3 touchdowns to help the Demons end a 15 game losing streak in their victory over North Olmsted.
